We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to develop and support electronics for industrial, scientific, and medical laser products.  Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position is responsible for designing and implementing high quality, reliable complex analog and digital circuits for laser systems.  This individual will be a key member of an existing multi-disciplined and cross-organizational program team who will interface with mechanical and optical designers, technical leads, program management, customers and suppliers as required.  The ideal candidate will be highly driven, exquisitely organized, and collaborative by nature. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and support control and drive electronics for high powered industrial, scientific, and medical lasers
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to develop new laser products and applications 
  • Work with contract manufacturers to produce and test electronics boards, modules, and instruments
  • Provide hands-on product support to manufacturing, marketing, sales, and service functions
  • Prepare specifications and needed documentation (Gerber data, BOM, and Schematics among others) for successful manufacturing and purchases of PCB; Estimate material, labor, and construction costs for budgeting purposes
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve cost and functionality of products
  • Characterize and analyze light sources and sensors and for new and existing products using cutting edge lab instruments and software
  • Inspect and configure semi-finished PCB assemblies received from contract manufacturers
  • Specify and execute evaluation procedures to ensure product compliance with government and industry regulations, e.g., IEC, UL, CE
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent degree)
  • Design experience with high-speed analog interfaces, filters, transmission lines, and low-noise systems
  • Working knowledge of digital devices, circuits, and programming, e.g., FPGAs
  • Proficiency in design, measurement, and debugging of circuits, laser drivers and TEC controllers
  • Proficiency in electrical simulation software and PCB design software (e.g. LTspice, PADS, MATLAB, Pspice, or other)
  • Experience with typical electronic laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, computer-aided data acquisition
  • Understanding of circuit ESD protection and EMI rejection techniques
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, document control skills
