The Illinois Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (I-MRSEC) hosts an NSF-supported research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program that gives undergraduate students the chance to take part in challenging, meaningful interdisciplinary materials research. No lab experience required to apply, just enthusiasm for materials science! Potential research topics relate to magnetic materials, nanomaterials, sustainable energy, and plastics, with both experimental and computational projects available. Build technical and professional skills and network with peers, while carrying out research at one of the top research institutions in country!
Students studying physics, applied or engineering physics, materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Due to funding requirements, open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents 18 years old or older who are currently enrolled in 2- or 4-year programs, and will not complete a bachelor’s degree before Fall 2023.
