Optical Packaging Engineer
Voyant is creating a new category of LiDAR sensor for machine perception. Founded by top scientists with more than a decade of research in silicon photonics, Voyant fabricates sophisticated optical systems optimized for FMCW LiDAR using low-cost semiconductor chips. Voyant’s compact, active sensing solutions will revolutionize machine perception for transportation, robotics, and monitoring application.
As Optical Packaging Engineer you will be working with and across the component teams to define and implement the next generation FMCW LiDAR devices. This role requires an understanding of design for manufacture, optical and mechanical package design, machine part fabrication, and getting your working with subcontractors to engage from prototype to high volume production runs.
What you will do:
- Lead the design of photonic chip packaging for chip-scale LiDAR
- Lead the design and build of laser and optical amplifier integrated assembly
- Lead development and design for manufacturability of lens alignment/attach, LIDAR module assembly, and box build
- Work closely with and develop relationships with packaging and assembly vendors
- Drive reliability, performance and yield improvement projects
- Drive design for volume manufacturability
What we need from you:
- Experience with optical epoxies, non-hermetic packaging, and high-volume photonic chip packaging
- Experience with photonic III-V chip assemblies, silicon chip assembly or PCB or III-V hybrid on-silicon chip assembly
- Familiarity with optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio, FRED, CodeV and lens design
- Experience with mechanical design and CAD, tolerance analysis and/or 3-D CAD/CAM
- Experience with either Pro-E, AutoCAD or SolidWorks software or equivalent is a requirement
- Hands-on experience with product reliability and qualification testing, including MIL-standard, Telecordia testing life testing. HALT testing experience a plus
- Demonstrated experience bringing products to market from R&D prototype to high volume manufacture
