Job Title: Core Engineering – Process Engineer V

Job Description: Locations: Sunnyvale, CA or Redmond, WA

As an Optical Process Engineer, you will be responsible for design, development and bring-up of new innovative process technologies that are core to delivering transformative experience in AR/VR products. You will join an agile team that is laser-focused on incubating winning prototypes, establishing new process capabilities with supply-chain partners, and releasing product sub-systems that are fully hardened for high-volume manufacturing (HVM). Working closely in a collaborative relationship with subcontract manufacturing partners engineering teams you will develop the HVM infrastructure required to produce the highest quality hardware. Based on a robust engineering background, candidates should have earned their track record of bringing multiple products from concept into HVM.

Lead design and development of technically complex manufacturing processes including material selection, parameter optimization, equipment, metrology and system design to enable new products designs & functional requirements.
Provide early and ongoing manufacturing support to ensure that a new process is scalable for HVM.
Bring up and validate processes before development vehicle or engineering builds.
Demonstrate failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and problem solving for product yield and quality issue through FMEA/DFM/DFT/DFX and various DOEs format.
Develop and perform incoming quality control (IQC), in-process quality control (IPQC) and outgoing quality control (OQC) as part of quality control.
Publish written documentation of procedures, setups and experimental results with strong attention to detail.
Lead functional technology groups and drive cross-functional decisions on process development and architecture.
Support failure analysis on systems returned from the field and use data to improve processes, materials and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Optical Science, Physics or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in process development in consumer electronics or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications
Master/Ph.D. in relevant degree with background in module process development.
Experience with 1+ full life cycle product launches including production ramp and HVM.
Hands-on experience designing optical experiments and optical metrology.
Experience with optical setups such as light sources (lasers and LED’s), diffractive optics, optical materials, thin and thick film optics for either characterization or fabrication purposes.
Experience with fabrication of advanced optical devices using interferometric, holographic, or nano-fabrication techniques and associated materials.
Knowledge of geometric optics, fundamentals of optics, diffractive optics or photonics including component simulation, integration, and testing.
Hands-on experience in the development of module processes such as thin film processing, roll-to-roll lamination and integration, laser micromachining.
Experienced in holography and exposure systems.
Experience with photopolymer material to fabricate VBG, HOE or PVH.
Demonstrated ability to perform DOE, data analysis, SPC control
Demonstrated failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and problem solving for product yield and quality issues.
Knowledge of measurement system analysis (e.g. equipment/tooling/tester validation) is a plus
Excellent written & verbal communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability
Excellent data handling, documentation, critical milestone creation, and organization skill
Experience using statistical tools (e.g. JMP, excel) for process data collection and analysis.
Experience in working with subcontract manufacturing partners.
Proficient in English communication, additional language skills a plus.
