We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee interested in performing fundamental and applied research in the fields of electronic materials development and device physics! You will join a team of 6-8 researchers and will be expected to contribute to at least two high impact experimental programs. The fundamental research program involves the study of electron conduction in disordered metal-insulator composites. The applied research program involves developing electrical characterization techniques to identify aging or degradation mechanisms in commercial off the shelf (COTS) devices.
You will be expected to contribute and execute innovative research ideas, present your research at various internal and external forums, and publish your research in peer-reviewed journals. You will also be provided the opportunity to seek funding for additional research topics with the guidance and support of your staff mentors. Possess, or are pursuing, PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field
Experience in experimental research involving electronic materials, electrical characterization, device physics, or a closely related field
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Experience with electronic testing and measurements, such as dielectric spectroscopy or performing I-V, permittivity, or conductivity measurements
Experience with high frequency (>1 MHz) characterization of materials or devices
Experience with high-frequency measurement systems such as lock-in amplifiers, impedance analyzers, or vector network analyzers
Proficiency with at least one common computer programming language (MATLAB, Python)
Experience with cryogenic measurements
Desire to mentor undergraduate or graduate students
Strong publication record
Strong work ethic and motivation to lead multiple research programs
The Electronic, Optical and Nanomaterials Department provides innovation in the design, synthesis and development of advanced, multifunctional materials to satisfy unique needs in electronic, optical, electrochemical, structural and selective-molecular-binding applications. We control chemical and structural characteristics, from the nano- to the micro-scale, in inorganic and hybrid systems to explore new material constructs and strategies aimed at optimizing and expanding material performance.
