Come and be a part of the new “Table-Top Synchrotron” project and participate in our quest to develop supercontinuum sources that outcompete synchrotrons from the deep-UV down to 33 nm to the mid-IR up to 15 µm.
To cover this enormous bandwidth we will be making 4 supercontinuum sources, or beam lines, based on gas-filled hollow-core fibers, silica and soft-glass fibers, such as fluoride and chalcogenide fibers, that we make in-house.
Your PhD project will be an integral part of developing a UV supercontinuum source with a tailored beam shape and a spectrum that reaches down to 33 nm. To do so you will design and fabricate metasurfaces that create broadband Bessel beams and provide broadband third-harmonic generation in the deep-UV when attached to the output facet of optical fibers.
You will be based in the Plasmonics and Metamaterials group headed by Associate Professor Andrei Laurynenka, who will be your main supervisor, and you will work closely with the Fiber Sensors & Supercontinuum group headed by Professor Ole Bang, who will be your co-supervisor.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary responsibility will be to design and fabricate metasurfaces that create broadband Bessel beams and provide broadband third-harmonic generation in the deep-UV when attached to the output facet of optical fibers. This will require advanced numerical modelling and clean-room fabrication. We therefore require knowledge in numerical modelling and experimental optics, with a desire to work in a clean room.
You must have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
