At Facebook AR/VR Hardware, we are developing the future of Portal, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) products. As a Optical Display Engineer, you will be a member of our Display and Optics organization, taking a lead in display module optical design to set the technical goals, be the point of contact and interface to the product development team, lead the development of leading-edge technologies and designs, and work with the current and evolving ecosystem to provide differentiating capabilities to our HW platforms. You will be part of a tight-knit group of highly talented engineers at the forefront of innovation for our Portal and VR products.
Display optical design and proactively work with display touch, EE, ME, and cross functional teams to drive decisions for best display module design.
Define optical specifications for new display modules.
Design and integrate new display technologies into products from the prototype phase to mass production to enhance the optical performance.
Define and specify display optical test plans and methodologies.
Deliver and achieve target milestones to meet fast paced product development schedule.
Track and resolve issues through various phases of production, and perform failure-mode and root-cause analysis.
Communicate display work status regularly with clear articulation of design choices along the way.
Work closely with display/touch design and test vendors to ensure the quality of the overall system design.
Work closely with internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure the design meets the specs at the component, board, and system level.
Design, document, and execute a test methodology for characterizing system performance with external partners and test houses.
Leverage ODM/CM’s resources to maximize the focus of our internal resources on adding value and differentiation to our product.
Identify design risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Willingness and ability to travel 30% time internationally.
Master’s degree in Physics, Optical, Photonics, Electrical Engineering or relevant experience.
5+ years of experience in display design for consumer electronics.
Experience in display/touch module optical design and architecture, system integration, test, debugging and analysis.
Experience with designing display module with display technologies such as LCD, backlights, or AMOLED.
Experience performing and designing DOE, data analysis, SPC control, yield improvement, root cause investigation, FACA, and quality.
Experience with optical and electrical lab equipment for display measurement.
Experience in working with display vendors, ODMs and CMs, as well as JDM development.
Track record of delivering high volume, fast paced consumer products.
Experience with project management and communication.
In-depth knowledge of AMLCD TFT, LC cell design or AMOLED and production process.
Experience with flexible substrate display technologies.
Experience in working directly with mainstream AMLCD or AMOLED vendors.
Studied on display optical performance related fields such as color science, OLED materials, LEDs, and backlight films.
Experience with optical simulation models with tools such as Lightools, ZEMAX, or Tracepro.
