The College of Optical Sciences in the University of Arizona is a recognized world leader in optics and photonics research. The Intelligent Imaging and Sensing Lab (I2SL) in the college, led by Prof. Amit Ashok, focuses on use of prior information and novel optical mechanisms/phenomenon in the design of computational imaging and sensing systems. This approach utilizes design degrees of freedom in the optical and the post-processing domains jointly towards the goal of maximizing the “information” content of measurements relevant to a particular task (e.g. image formation, target detection). The research group is currently engaged in several computational imaging projects in the areas of optical and digital super-resolution, X-ray material discrimination, extended depth of field imaging, light-field imaging, passive/active ranging, coherent and partially-coherent compressive imaging, information-optimal measurement design, image reconstruction algorithms, multi-spectral compressive imaging for image formation and target identification tasks. The ideal postdoc candidate should have a strong background in signal/image processing, detection and estimation theory, information theory, and familiarity with the basic physical principles of optical sensors and imaging systems. The postdoc will have the unique opportunity to make fundamental contributions in the areas of optical light field imaging (active/passive), X-ray based imaging and anomaly detection, computational imaging and, mentor graduate students, write grants and proposals, and present his/her work at international SPIE / OSA / IEEE / SIAM conferences and in flagship peer-reviewed journals.

• Occasional travel may be required.

• Original postdoctoral appointment is up to one year with possible renewal.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ ASU / NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!

Accepting a new position is a big life step. We want potential candidates and their families to be able to make informed decisions.
