Professorship W 2 of Experimental Physics | University of Regensburg

The Department of Physics, University of Regensburg, invites applications for a

Professorship W 2 of Experimental Physics

to be appointed as soon as possible.

We are searching for a distinguished scholar with high standing in the area of experimental solid-state physics, preferably with a focus on the department’s research priority “physics of nanostructures”. The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized research program. To complement the experimental techniques available in the department, a research focus on a timely research area in electron microscopy and electron spectroscopy is desirable, such as in ultrafast electron diffraction, or two-photon or angle-resolved photoemission. Active research could also comprise novel methods of optical microscopy of electronic states such as single-spin microscopy. In order to optimize the integration into coordinated research centers of the department, research interests in, for example, effective Dirac fermions or the physics of spin-orbit coupling in condensed matter are desirable.

The successful candidate will take up teaching assignments spanning the breadth of experimental physics, and will show willingness to take on administrative responsibilities within the department.

The prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, the demonstration of teaching skills at the university level, and additional scholarly achievements, such as a habilitation or equivalent academic experience. Scientific research experience gained outside of a university environment, or while employed as a Junior Professor, will also be taken into consideration and may be considered equivalent to a formal academic qualification.

Candidates with severe disabilities and essentially equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration.

Candidates for this position should be aged 51 or under at the time of appointment (exceptions can be made following Art. 10 Abs. 3 Satz 2 BayHSchPG).

The University of Regensburg aims to raise the number of female professors and explicitly encourages applications from qualified females. The University of Regensburg offers support to families in meeting the demands of the workplace (see for more information).

Applications accompanied by supporting documentation (CV with copies of certificates; list of publications; research experience, research interests and statement of research; list of third-party funding; teaching experience and statement of teaching philosophy) should be submitted, preferably in electronic form, by

June 18, 2017
