Job Description
Responsible
for the design, specification, development and testing of
components for use in commercial, telecommunication and
consumer laser diode products and assemblies
Partner with sourcing and
quality team to select vendors and complete first article qualification
Interact with vendors for piece
parts specification, procurement, and quality assurance
Identify
and promote supplier process improvements and enhancements to increase
quality and yield of components, reducing costs
Work with design engineers to
define component qualification plans and carry out component qualification
into products
Perform failure analysis of
component failures to identify root cause and implement corrective actions
Participate in development of
assembly processes for new products
Generate and document
engineering reports, engineering drawings, BOMs, assembly work
instructions, qualification plans and first article inspection reports for
new products/processes
Create and maintain R&D
component database
Requirements
Strong background in component
& material engineering, relating to ceramics, metallization,
soldering, epoxy, optical fiber and other mechanical/optical components
Familiarity with
opto-mechanical-thermal concepts of telecom, commercial and/or consumer
laser products and assemblies
Familiarity with conceptual
design layout, prototyping for component attach, optical alignment and
package assembly
Background in design and
qualification of electro-opto-mechanical components for manufacturing
utilizing DOE, SPC, DFX, margin/tolerance analysis
Experience in opto-mechanical
design tools (SolidWorks preferred)
Excellent communication skills
to contribute effectively in cross-functional teams and interact with
suppliers
Asian contract manufacturing
experience preferred
Knowledge of diode laser and
fiber optics preferred
Familiarity with optical
components qualification standards, such as MIL-STD-883 and GR-468,
preferred
Minimum education of BS in
mechanical, material, optical, electrical, or physical engineering with 5+
years relevant experience
US citizenship or permanent
residency preferred, as it allows greater program flexibility
