The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne (Australia) has a vacancy for a Research Fellow in Nano-optics, working under the supervision of Professor Kenneth Crozier.

The Research Fellow will work on the experimental demonstration of nanophotonic devices for a novel visible-wavelength optical spectrometer chip. The Research Fellow will design and simulate these devices, realize them experimentally by nanofabrication, and develop new methods to characterize them optically and electrically.

The Research Fellow will join a group whose research in nano- and micro-optics spans from basic to applied. The group’s recent work has included nanowire-based photodetectors for multispectral imaging, optical nanotweezers based on plasmonics and silicon photonics, the demonstration of metasurfaces based on high-index dielectric materials, quantum mechanical effects in plasmonics, and single molecule Raman spectroscopy using optical nanoantennas.

The Research Fellow will perform independent research, leading to the publication of research in journals and at conferences. The Research Fellow will be located in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the Melbourne School of Engineering, and will be expected to be an active member of the Department, collaborating with other researchers. This position may undertake research supervision directly related to this area of research, as required.

The salary range is $95,434-$113,323 (per annum, Australian dollars AUD). In addition, an employer contribution to superannuation (retirement) of 9.5% is provided.
