We seek
an energetic Mechanical Engineering Intern to work in a fast paced laser
product development environment. The ME
Intern works directly with engineers and scientists to design parts, design
small subassemblies, create component & assembly drawings, spec sheets and
all of the necessary documentation for the release of products to volume
production. The ME Intern will work
across all functions of the business to create fixtures, parts and small tools
to facilitate the product development process. The ME Intern is a vital player
developing and productizing Lumentum’s laser technologies to meet large OEM
customer specifications for laser based commercial products.
Job Responsibilities
Component
and assembly design documentation (2D drawings from 3D model CAD files, etc).
Basic
component, tool and package design, analysis, debug and rework.
Writing
documentation for designing, building, testing and reworking assemblies.
Development
of lab validation systems for component and module bring-up and test.
Assembly
of Lumentum laser based systems and use of lab equipment to troubleshoot and
validate system, subsystem and component functionality.
Documentation
release and management into an Agile based documentation control system.
ECO
& CP creation and management.
Prototype
quotation, order, delivery & inventory management.
Certificates
of Compliance (CoC) acquisition & management.
Incoming
component inspection, prototype assembly, debug and rework.
Basic
assembly and test procedure documentation (writing).
Assembly
of Lumentum laser based systems and use of lab equipment to troubleshoot and
validate system, subsystem and component functionality.

Minimum
Requirements

work relevant work experiences.
Demonstrable
CAD expertise, preferably Solidworks.
Excellent
understanding of ANSI drafting standards. Understanding of ASME Y14.5 dimension
and tolerancing standards preferred.
Must
be mechanically inclined and be able to visualize mechanical (spatial)
relationships.
Must
be able to properly use standard and precision hand tools. Must be able to put
things together and take them apart.
Must
be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Ability
to travel as needed for vendor evaluation and bring up domestically &
internationally.
Excellent
computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Additional Desired Experience
A
technical AS degree related to design & documentation.
Machine
tools experience.
Progress
toward BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Manufacturing
experience/exposure.
Experience
working with domestic and off-shore vendors.
1
year of experience with Agile.
High
level of integrity, work ethic, responsiveness and commitment to continuous
improvement.
