The department of physics and optical engineering anticipates a visiting faculty position in the area of optics and photonics starting August 2017. A doctorate or near completion is required, preferably in the area of optics or optical engineering. The department offers a B.S. degree in physics, a B.S. degree in engineering physics and a B.S. and M.S. in optical engineering. Outstanding teaching is the most significant criterion for success at Rose-Hulman. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower division courses in physics and lower and upper division courses in optical engineering including engineering design. In addition to teaching, other essential job responsibilities include advising and conducting research with students, and service to the department, institute and professional community. The department operates modern laboratories that support teaching and active research, design and development projects at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Areas of technical interest include lasers, optical fibers, nano-technology, lens design, holography, photorefractive materials, optical metrology, biomedical optics, non-linear optics, and semiconductors. The Center for Applied Optics Studies provides exceptional opportunities for professional development and interaction with industry. Applications will be reviewed beginning January 20, 2017 until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a resume or curriculum vitae, cover letter, teaching philosophy and a list of references online at: https://jobs.rose-hulman.edu.
