Senior Electrical Engineer – Automation Engineering, Inc. (Wilmington, MA)

Summary:

This is a unique opportunity to join the AEi team as a Senior Electrical Engineer contributing to the design and implementation of electrical controls and electronic systems for the capital equipment used in the manufacture of camera module assemblies for the automotive (ADAS systems), mobile, consumer, computational, gesture recognition, stereoscopic, 3-D, wearable, security and medical camera markets.

As a senior electrical engineer, you will work with other electrical and systems engineers, marketing and applications engineering to translate market and customer specific requirements into product architecture, design concepts and solutions that meet timeline and cost targets. Technical challenges range from system integration and machine automation to design and verification of high-speed digital signal transmission lines to the development of complex test fixtures and custom PCBs. You will work with cross functional teams in engineering and operations to develop solutions from concept to complete production, including analysis and validation. You will create test plans and execute data collection on contact resistance, leakage, inductance, bandwidth, crosstalk and rise time of interface solutions and design test fixtures and printed circuit boards to test the interface structures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with high speed camera interface design circuits and communications including MIPI, Parallel, HiSpi, LIN, Can and I2C
  • Work on custom interface PCB designs required to interface with image sensor technology
  • Prepare electrical schematics, electrical panel layouts, and cable harnesses using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Digital and analog electrical design.
  • Integration and test of electronic systems, boards and commercial off-the-shelf and custom hardware designs to achieve system requirements.
  • Electrical debug for systems and PCBs.
  • Communicate with suppliers as needed to resolve design and technical issues.
  • Interact with mechanical and electrical engineers, programmers, and assembly technicians.
  • Assist in preparation of support documentation including specifications and bill of materials.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in electrical design for capital equipment
  • 5%+ travel expected to support domestic and international customer sites
  • BS (MS a plus) in electrical or controls engineering
  • US citizenship or US work permit required
  • Local candidates preferred

  • Demonstrate initiative, responsibility and accountability for successful execution of multiple tasks through all project stages
  • PCB design, schematics capture and layout in Altium or similar package Job Description

  • Familiarity with NEC (NFPA-70), NFPA-79 and CE standards is a plus.
  • Ability to do some software design and programming is a plus
  • Understanding of distributed control protocols such as Ethernet is a plus
  • Experience with microcontrollers and FPGAs is a plus.
  • Experience with hardware such as motion controllers, I/O boards, and frame grabbers is a plus.
  • PCB design, schematics capture and layout in Altium or similar package
  • Experience with packages similar to AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff.
